It’s election day. Don’t forget to vote!
And given that it’s election day, it’s a good time to step back and consider the big picture. To that end, you might want to take a look at this DealBook column, which discusses CEOs’ perspectives on the role of business in politics and the impact of technology on society—all in one column no less. What role does business have in addressing issues facing our society? Is the role of business solely to maximize shareholder value? (See, e.g., this PubCo post.) What role can employees play in influencing decision-making at the highest levels? How does “technology [impact] society at scale”? Could business possibly serve as a uniting force “in the middle of this political maelstrom”? According to one CEO, “[b]usiness leaders have an opportunity to help bridge some of these chasms in understanding in our society.” Rather than simply image management and public relations, do these reflections by CEOs suggest that business has reached an inflection point?
